As the site of an ancient civilization, Egypt is known all over the world. A tour to this country of deserts and fertile valleys of river Nile, with the Mediterranean Sea on the north and Red Sea on the east, could be a fascinating experience. Both ancient and modern spectacles greet an Egyptian tourist.
Traditional Egypt Tour Itinerary
Traditionally, a tour of Egypt included visits to the Pyramids, the Sphinx, several temples and a cruise along river Nile. You landed at Cairo, visited the Egyptian Antiquities Museum, and travelled to Giza and Saqqara to visit the Pyramids. You could then take a train, bus or air trip to Luxor to take a cruise down the Nile to Aswan High Dam and back, before returning to Cairo. On return to Cairo you visited the Khan el-Khalili market located in Islamic Cairo and finished with a trip to old Cairo with its churches and the Coptic Museum.
Such a tour would give you a look at the famed ancient monuments and the bazaar sights.
Religious Tours
There are Islamic religious tours focusing entirely on Islamic monuments that cater mainly to Muslim tourists, and Holy Family and Exodus tours catering to Western tourists. There are also unstructured religious tours that survey the different religious sites in Egypt.
Desert Tours
In the west, you have the Baharia Oasis, with the valley of the golden Mummies, and the Siwa Oasis, where Alexander paid a visit to the Oracle. In the east, there is Sinai.
Modern Trips
Egypt has developed its tourist infrastructure to cater to the modern traveller, interested more in relaxing on beaches or swimming in pools or the sea rather than seeing the ancient sights. They might also go for rounds of golf or just sit watching the boats floating along the Nile.
To cater to this group, major hotel chains like Le Meridien, Hilton, Radisson and Sheraton have set up star-rated hotels at different places.
Beach vacations along the Red Sea coast and Sinai are available at different locations, to suit different budgets. For example, you could enjoy high-end vacations at Sharm El Sheikh or budget vacations at Hurghada.
Golfing Tours
Golfing tours could vary. You could have a few rounds of golf in Cairo, Luxor, Red Sea coast and/or Sinai. A round of golf either in the morning or afternoon, with the other half of the day spent on sightseeing is a typical program.
Even in the course of other kinds of tours, you could have a round of golf arranged if you so desire.
Fishing Trips
While visiting Aswan, you could go on fishing trips along the Nile, or to the Lake Nasser for catching more spectacular fish. Some of the largest fresh water fish are found at Lake Nasser.
Birding Tours
Bird watchers generally prefer to indulge in their hobby at Aswan and Northern Sinai. This can be combined with nature treks, particularly along the mountainous walks along the Sinai.
Scuba Diving
Scuba diving expeditions in the Red Sea, with many underwater attractions including shipwrecks, are offered at all the beach vacation spots like Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. Red Sea is reported to have some of the best scuba diving in the world.
Holiday in Egypt
A holiday in Egypt could indeed prove a wonderful experience. Don't miss it!
