Lots of time, effort and expense is required in becoming a plumber. It does not just involve attending a plumbing course, and placing an ad in the newspapers about your services, it needs lots of dedication, commitment and hard work. To become a full fledged plumber, you have to first sit on a plumbing course called the City and Guilds Basic Certificate in Plumbing Studies.
You can find this plumbing course in most of the major towns having an adult learning facility or college. This course is offered at different times of the year; and can be completed in twenty weeks if you do the course full time. However there are no guarantees that you will be successful on the completion of the plumbing course; you just have to work hard at it as it is hard work that pays in the end.
On completion of this City and Guilds Basic Certificate in Plumbing Studies, you can easily seek employment as an apprentice or in a firm that offers plumbing duties. However, you will not be considered to be a fully qualified plumber on the completion of this plumbing course. You have to work at building your own level of experience, after which you can attempt the next plumbing course, NVQ Level 2 in plumbing.
However, depending on your age and experience, you find that most firms are more than obliged to employ you with completion of either one or both of these plumbing courses. Though you may not be a full trained and qualified plumber, you would have gained sufficient knowledge through the plumbing course to meet their basic plumbing needs. If you are lucky with your employers, you may also receive finance from them to complete your plumbing course and your last step to reach your plumbing qualifications, the City and Guilds Level 3 Plumbing Studies.
This is a very difficult plumbing course where you are granted admittance only after taking into consideration your existing skills. Lots of theory work is involved in this plumbing course with great emphasis on the technical elements of plumbing. On completing this course, you can consider yourself to be a fully trained plumber. Of course, even after this you have to keep yourself updated on latest systems and technical updates.
